A Kentucky Menu and Blushing Colors!

Themed Wedding, Kentucky Derby / Country. LOVE this.

Hello lovelies!  Thank you so much for the sweet comments from yesterday's first official post of my new blog!  Your feedback means a lot!

Let's talk wedding theme, shall we?  I pretty much knew right away that our theme would be (excuse me, but for lack of a better description) "Kentucky threw up on my wedding day" (at least on the menu). Hah!  But really, I am marrying a guy who truly loves the commonwealth just as much as I do, and we both love to have a themed party.  So for throwing what will be the biggest shin-dig of our lives - it was too good an opportunity to pass up!   My advise for you future brides is to go with a theme.  Once we had the theme down, we literally took off on the planning!   Just like that - it was like the menu, décor, and stationary Gods spoke to me.

One of the dish's we have on our menu for the night is the infamous Kentucky Hot Brown.

I really tried to incorporate southern comfort foods that have a signature Kentucky twist.
Nobody should leave hungry!

After we selected our theme, it was time to pick our wedding colors.  This came surprisingly easy.  I bet you're thinking we went with blue and white!  So wrong! I we decided to go with a classic blush and gold palette.  I LOVE this color combo together!

A blush and gold wedding color palette is sophisticated and chic, with an ultra modern feel, not to mention it ultimately reminds me of the infamous line from Steel Magnolias when Shelby is describing her wedding colors at the hair salon.

Lately I have been obsessed with all things blush and gold!

I found this cute makeup bag with the sequined gold bow will be cute for the bachelorette weekend to help get the party started.
I guess a makeup bag has the power to do that

I knew right away where I wanted to hold our reception.  Though I am not giving the name of the venue away, here are a few shots from the inside.  I am obsessed with the look and feel of the grand ball room!

outside of the venue there is a back area with a fireplace.  I would love to do a bourbon bar here for as the night gets going.

A shot of a bridal table that someone did.  I wanted to re-create a similar look, however when we met with the coordinator for the venue, my bubble was immediately  burst.  They no longer do the naked candle look for safety reasons.  Ugh!!  I am still determined to make it an amazing table with a similar look.  Maybe a little more "busy" than this one - but this one was pretty indeed.  The photographer that we went with Todd Pellowe , actually took this photograph :)  Big fan of his work!

My game plan is to design the look of the bridal table and then the rest of the tables will (hopefully) come together.  I am obsessed with the look of this table.  We chose ivory linens, so that we could really play with the blush and gold décor.  I am in love with this chevron runner for the bridal table.  What do y'all think?

love the simplicity of soft roses on the guest tables, with maybe a few gold votive candles
You can find really cute inexpensive votive candles at Marshalls, TJ Maxx and Michael's craft store!  I am already stocking up!

As you can see, the visions are flowing...
The Kentucky touches will be here and there throughout the day.  I definitely do not want it to be overbearing.

Did you find it easy to pick your color scheme?

I must say, I was quite pleased with how agreeable Darren was about the blush and gold theme.   He's been a GREAT help with all the planning, but for the most part he has turned me lose! haha

  1. Looks beautiful! I, of course, know the venue and it will be amazing. I always seem to pin the gold sparkly pins when it comes to my super secret wedding board, so I'm excited to see how your wedding will look: )

Thanks for all the ideas. Message me if you can! I so need your input. We are def not as far along as you and we get married in June!!!!!! OMG!!!!

  5. I so wish I had started my blog while I was planning my wedding - it's such a fun time and looks like you are really getting everything pinned down!! The color was the easiest part for me!! We went with all white flowers and pops of amethyst (also the bridesmaid dress color) and platinum (or silver)!! Can't wait to see how everything comes together!

  7. Hello!

I just started a blog recently and I came across yours about 2 months ago. I had just gotten engaged and used your wedding checklist from a previous post. I added somethings, changed around some things and just wanted to ask if I could mention your blog in my post? Let me know! Thanks!
